SSCL Ongoing Projects

Project Name: Bangladesh City Inclusive Sanitation Program - Financed by AIIB

Client: TA HUB of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Project Description

The project aims to enhance environment, ensure good quality lives and livelihoods through implementing safe, sustainable sanitation infrastructures and waste management system including service facilities for reaching the targets of SDG. The main components of the projects are:

  1. Faecal sludge collection and Treatment systems Developing a proper faecal sludge management system and treatment facility in every city is one of the major objectives of this project. Under this component existing system and facility will be accessed. Based on that new treatment plant will be designed or existing one will be retrofit to meet the required capacity.
  2. Sanitation improvement including containment focusing low-income communities. This project will aim to increase the coverage of safely managed sanitation. To fulfill this objective various sanitation infrastructure development will happen such as improvement of on-site containments, Construction of HH, public and communal toilets, development of small-scale water supply system including deep tube wells and pipelines, construction of drainage network for grey water management in waterlogged area, etc.
  3. Development of collection system of solid waste and construction of SWM plant with reuse facility are the main components of SWM system. Like component 1 (FSTP construction) this component will also access the current system and facilities and will propose additional/ new components for solid waste management.
  4. Building capacities within the municipalities and other partners and establishing a smart monitoring program for planning and monitoring the sanitation services. Engagement of private sector for efficient and sustained sanitation services. Strengthen governance accountability through development of municipal level CWIS framework and guidelines.

The government of Bangladesh (GoB), with financial support from AIIB, will implement inclusive urban sanitation in 25 cities of the country. In a venture with TA HUB of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, SSCL is responsible for land acquisition, resettlement, and environmental survey in these 25 municipalities in which more than 100 acres of land will be acquired. SSCL will prepare RPF, ESMF, CVA, and GAP to ensure social and environmental safeguard compliance.

Project Name: Expansion of Shah Cement Industries Limited - Financed by GIEK

Project Description

SSCL team is proud to serve the largest cement company in the world in its expansion project in Munshiganj. In this project on introducing environment-friendly, cost-effective, and efficient technology for cement production, our team is responsible for multiple social and environmental documentation. SSCL will conduct a compatibility study, a gap analysis of the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability and EHS Guidelines, and the Equator Principles. Moreover, SSCL will determine the main social and environmental impacts associated with the expansion and recommend an Environmental Management and Action Plan.

External Monitor for 70MW Power Plant construction

Project Description

SSCL is working as an external monitor to ensure the compliance of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), Gender Action Plan (GAP), Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP), and Livelihood Restoration Plan (LRP).

The expansion of MS Rod Manufacturing Plant of Abul Khair Steel Melting Ltd (AKSML)

Project Description

Abul Khair Steel Melting Ltd (AKSML) has approached financier for financing of the expansion of their MS Rod manufacturing plant. Currently the project has the capacity of producing 1,000,000 MT/year MS Rod and 2,200,000 MT/year billets. The proposed expansion is expected to increase the re-rolling capacity to 2,600,000 MT/year. The project is located at Shitalpur, Sonaichari, Sitakunda, Chattogram. SSCL is been awarded with the work order of conducting Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Study (ESIA).
